We’re having a diaper dilemma in our house. For the most part we’re Pampers people but my husband Rob – the ever money-saver who drives to different grocery stores for their specials – has been experimenting with other diapers. When Tessa was just a couple weeks old, he bought some grocery-store brand diapers and proudly announced “If we like these, we’re going to save so much money!” Too bad we didn’t. We could barely even get them strapped on her because the sticky strips were . . . well, not sticky. At about five weeks, Tessa was wearing a Huggies diaper and urine leaked out and all over Rob. He wasn’t happy and demanded that we throw all of those away (though now me as the culprit to save money, I kept and used them when he was at work, making sure she was wearing a Pampers diaper by the time he got home). And now last weekend, Rob comes home with a mega-size of CostCo diapers that are the exact same size and shape as the Huggies ones he hated three months ago. Tess has yet to poop and stay within those darn diapers.

Executive summary: I’m going to order a box of Pampers and call it a day. All of this has almost made me reconsider cloth diapering.

Anyone else having a diaper fiasco?

That problem we are having is that my son needs size two overnight diapers which i have not found any brand that makes them in that size. The smallest i saw was a size three. So i purchased a pack of the pampers dry baby which is marketed as being 12 hours leak protection. The first thing i noticed is that they are identical to luvs diapers but cost a lot more and they did not hold as much as the luvs. The ones that i liked the most were the fisher price happy days, believe it or not but the luvs work great for him for the most part.

Owen loves Target Up & Up diapers! They are about $13 for a case of 100. He wears those during the day, and the $$$$ Pampers Overnight diapers at night. He very rarely leaks with this combo!

In my defense, I didn’t know they were the same size as the small ones. On the box they said they were a bigger size… Oh well, I guess we can put them on the cats so we don’t have to change their litter box…

Once Alex and I were rocking in the rocking chair and having a sweet moment (he was about 6 mos.), when I stood up, poop was literally running off of my robe. I shouted, “code brown!” to Greg and it was the hugest mess!

We have good success with the Target brand as well.

Really, Rob is just trying to save money so he can enjoy more beer. Saving money on groceries and using it to buy beer is simply prudent. My wife did these diaper studies for a marketing research company for each of our three girls. We found that the Pampers and the Huggies worked best, but the Huggies were significantly less expensive at Costco, so that was our last stop.
